Fall Toes

Today’s post is a quick one! I couldn’t hold off any longer and decided to throw some Fall polish on my toes!

Polish: “I Feel the Earth Move” by Spa Ritual

(Please excuse the poor quality of the photo. There was a giant spider outside on the deck when I went to take them in the natural light. I’m pretty sure everyone within a 10 mile radius heard my shriek!)

I have been eyeing my fall colored clothes in my closet too, however, they’re all too warm for the summer weather. Fall will be here before we know it though!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Lavender and Crochet

Check out my favorite new body lotion and the reason I need it so much!

 Lotion: Avalon Organics

I am absolutely obsessed with this lotion. It is an organic lotion with no harsh chemicals. My acupuncturist introduced me to this when I was having some trouble with my skin. She explained that many of the popular lotions with perfumes and strong chemicals can actually do our skin more harm than good. She told me to check out Avalon Organics.

They sell a wide variety of products including lotion, body wash, shampoo and conditioner. I have only tried the lotions and body wash so far. My two favorite scents are Lavender and Peppermint.

The other great thing about this lotion is that it absorbs into your skin really well. After using the lotion there is none of that slimy “I have oil all over my hands” feeling. It simply leaves my skin soft and smooth.

I highly recommend checking them out. There is even a place on the website where you can find stores that sell their products. That way you can check out the scents first hand.

I also thought I would share my big crochet project with all of you today. (One of the big reasons I keep this lotion on hand all day). This afghan is about the size of a twin comforter. It took about a month to make from start to finish, but I have to say, it was worth all of the dry skin, broken nails and aching fingers!

Now you’ll all get a glimpse of my geeky side! I saw a Tetris afghan on Pinterest made by artist Loretta Grayson; which she had posted on her blog. I thought it was one of the coolest things I had ever seen. I used to love playing Tetris as a kid and thought it would be great crochet project to try myself. My design is quite different from hers but I had to give her credit for the inspiration.

Do you have a craft or hobby that wreaks havoc on your hands? Do you have a go-to lotion to help prevent the damage?

Julep Mystery Box!

Julep Mystery Box!

My Julep Mystery “It Girl” Box arrived yesterday afternoon and I was ecstatic when I saw what was inside!

How cute is this packaging? I felt like I was opening a present with all of the confetti and bright colored paper!

Left to right: Base coat, Rachel, Sandra, Jessica, Megan

Julep’s website said that each box would contain at least 2 bottles of nail polish and anywhere from $60 to $200 worth of product. My 5 bottles of polish have a value of $70 and it only cost me$19.99 for the box!

The colors I received were perfect. Rachel is a nice coppery brown shade, which will be great for fall, Sandra is a shimmery hot pink shade, Jessica is a very soft shade of baby blue, and Megan is a shimmery teal shade. I chose to wear the Megan shade first because I loved that it matched my computer case perfectly!

Another great thing about Julep polish is that it does not contain many of the harsh chemicals typically found in nail polishes. Julep’s website says, “Julep Nail Color is “4-free” and does not contain formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, toluene, or DBP. Our professional chip-resistant formulation is delivered via our exclusive flat brush with micro-frayed brush hairs.”

If Julep runs the Mystery Box special again I can assure you I will be first in line! 🙂

Did you order a mystery box? If so, what did you get inside? If not, do you think you’ll order one if they are offered in the future?

Gel Manicure Update

Happy Friday!!

I have a not so good update on my at home gel manicure. It is already chipping. However, I am not quite ready to swear off this product all together.

The top picture shows the chips in my at home gel manicure. The second picture shows me crocheting.

Why? Because I think that is what brought on the chipping. Crocheting may not seem like it would do much damage, however, I have been working on a significant crocheting project the past week. When I am working on the squares I am frequently using my nails to pull and tighten the yarn. The chipping is exclusive the fingers I am using most to crochet.

So ultimately, I think this at home gel manicure has the potential to hold up for a week or more with normal wear and tear. I just think it’s not quite strong enough to stand up to direct abuse. For the $5 I spent on the kit I don’t mind.

If you go easy on your nails I think the at home gel manicure will hold up well for you!

Have a fantastic weekend!

At Home Gel Manicure

Good morning readers!

We have a store up here called “Five Below”. Everything in the store costs $5 or less. I went in looking to pick up a new nail buffer when I stumbled across a Nutra Nail Gel Perfect kit.

I gave the kit a try for the first time yesterday. I looks like regular nail polish, however, there are some extra steps. First, you begin with the “activator”. It looks like a base coat of regular polish though it is more water like. Then you apply the color. You have to do one hand at a time or you run the risk of the activator drying which would make the polish not adhere. Overall it took me about 15 minutes to put two coats on all 10 of my nails. It actually went faster than using regular polish because you don’t need to (and shouldn’t) wait for each coat to dry.

The kit cost me only $5 at “Five Below”. When I opened the box I found a coupon for $2 off of another kit. So if this holds up as long as a professional gel manicure I will go back and buy another kit for only $3. If you don’t have a “Five Below” near you the Nutra Nail Gel Perfect kit is available at drug stores as well.

It has been 24 hours so far and I have no hints of chipping. I have had regular gel manicures done at a salon in the past. I absolutely love them, however, the UV light makes me a little weary. I try to save getting a professional gel manicure done for special occasions.

Do you have gel manicures done? Have you ever tried an at-home kit?

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Lazy Monday Outfit

Happy Monday readers! I thought I’d switch things up today with another Polyvore creation. (If you haven’t checked out yesterday’s post I’ve got 3 of my own outfits up!)

Lazy afternoon

Monsoon cotton shirt / 7 For All Mankind low rise jeans / Flat shoes, $55 / Michael Kors handbag / Banana Republic pearl jewelry / Chandelier earrings / Bobbi Brown Cosmetics eyeshadow, $75 / Essie nail polish

I threw this outfit together starting with the coral top. The color caught my eye and I love anything that is loose and flowy. I think outfits are much more flattering if they hang loosely on the body. For the bottoms I chose skinny jeans. I am totally hooked on my skinny jeans. In the summer they go perfectly with my TOMS or with my boots in the fall. The Michael Kors bag is my idea of handbag perfection. The simple design and beautiful tan color would go with so many outfits. The earrings play off of the color of the shirt along with the dark copper nail polish. The sandals and bracelet dress the outfit up to make it look a little less casual.

I hope you all are having a great start to the week! Enjoy the sunshine! Mindy

Golden Nails

Happy Friday everyone!

Short post today! I am headed up to the lake this weekend so you will not hear from me tomorrow. Before I go I figured I would leave you with my polish look for the weekend!

This is SpaRitual Vegan Nail Polish in “Solstice”. (Read more about it in this post). I love this shade of gold. It feels like I have actual gold leaf on my nails.

I am going to try my best to get some outfit photos while I am at the lake. I will post them when I return. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!

Another Natural Product: Badger

Good morning!

To switch things up a bit, I thought I would share one of my favorite product lines with you. When I am able I try to use natural products and eat natural foods. I am not perfect, some of my favorite make-ups are not natural and my sweet tooth wins out from time to time. However, when I find a natural product that can replace an artificial product, I become hooked! So today I want to share my Badger products with you!

Badger Balm Collection Badger is one of my new favorite product lines. Badger is a small company from my wonderful state of New Hampshire which sells natural lip balms, chap sticks, joint/muscle rubs, bug sprays, sunscreens and more. All of their products are made with natural ingredients and many of them are USDA Certified Organic.

I have actually found that Badger products work better than other brand products. When I used their chap sticks and lip balms my lips are incredibly soft. They have a natural flavoring to them from actual organic items. When you read their ingredient lists (available online) all of the ingredients are recognizable, you will often see things like extra virgin olive oil, fair trade certified cocoa, and aloe on the labels. Here are some of my favorites.

This Sweet Orange Cocoa Butter Lip Balm has a flavor that reminds me of a creamsicle.

The Vanilla Madagascar Lip Balm has a delicious vanilla and cocoa flavor to it.

The Badger Sore Muscle Rub and Badger Sore Joint Rub definitely help with aches and pains at the end of the day. They also make great moisturizers for hands and legs. The scents are wonderful and come from the natural ingredients used to make them. The Sore Joint Rub Arnica Blend has the added benefit of helping reduce bruising. My acupuncturist taught me that arnica will actually speed up the healing process for a bruise.

Lastly, I have the Badger Sleep Balm. I like a little aromatherapy at the end of the day. This balm can be used as a lip balm at night to give you the nice scent of lavender and bergamot as you fall asleep.

If you try them I think you will fall in love with them just as I did. If you go to the Badger website you can see all of their products along with ingredient lists. They also sell the products on their website. If you prefer to buy them in store there is a place to search for retailers near you.

I hope you all are having a great week! The weekend is almost here!

My Daily Make-up Regimen

Hello my lovely readers!

Many of my friends have asked what kind of make-up I use and I thought sharing my make-up regimen would be a fun post for the blog. My routine is pretty much the same every day. I like to keep my make-up simple and natural looking. I jazz it up for special events from time to time but overall I like to use my make-up to enhance my features rather than alter them entirely.

The first step of my routine every day is Bobbi Brown Foundation with SPF 15 in Beige 3. I only use it under my eyes to cover dark circles. This is by far the best foundation I have ever used. I stumbled upon it through free samples I received with a Sephora order. My dark circles have always made me self-conscious and I fought for years to find an effective way to cover them. This foundation blended perfectly with my skin which is really amazing with my olive skin tone.

Next I use eyeliner. My favorite feature is my eyes. I am very fortunate to have inherited my green eyes from my grandfather. People often ask me if I have colored contact lenses because my eye color is so strong and unique. I find that a strong eyeliner really helps draw out that color even more making my eyes pop. My favorite eyeliners are Stila’s Smudge Sticks. The are long lasting and apply easily. Right now, my favorite go-to color in the smudge sticks is “lion fish”. It is brown with a hint of shimmer. Here are the colors I own…

To highlight my eyes even more I apply eye shadow. Just like my eye liner my favorite eye shadows are by Stila. I have many Stila shadows. I own the 2010 and 2011 holiday color wheel palettes. Lately my go-to shadow has been a Stila shadow trio named “Mulholland Drive”. The great thing about Stila’s eye shadow palettes and trios is that they come with guides for application. They give you suggestions as to how to apply multiple colors for easy application. I always apply my shadow with my Stila brush. The wider end is perfect for applying the main shadow colors and the small end is perfect for applying color to the crease and lash line.

To finish off my eyes I curl my lashes and use Stila’s “Stay all day waterproof volumizing mascara”. This mascara never flakes on me. It stays on strong all day. A couple of swipes leaves a nice even coat of mascara free of clumps!

Lastly, I add a little blush to my cheeks. It seems like not many women are wearing blush anymore, but I think there is a lot to be said for it. It gives a natural healthy glow. I am currently using a Sephora blush in Pink Blush.

Of course, at the end of the day, all of this make-up needs to come off. Sephora gave me a sample of Purity fash wash a year ago. Once I tried it I was in love. It takes off all of my make-up with ease. There is no burning or irritation, even with my semi-sensitive skin. The make-up comes off clean and easy. It is even gentle on my eyes.

So that wraps up my daily make-up regimen. It may sound like a lot but it really only takes me about 5 minutes to apply.

What are the essentials in your make-up routine? Do you have products you can’t live without? Are you committed to certain brands or do you switch it up every once in a while?

Thanks bunches for reading!
